If you have ever had an overdrawn account or insufficient funds in the bank, then you know the horror and embarrassment of having a payment denied or a check returned for insufficient funds. Thank God that is not the way it works in the kingdom of God!

Romans 3:10, 23 (NIV) tells us, “There is no one righteous, not even one...For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God." We could not pay if our lives depended on it, and it did. Nothing on earth was good enough or sufficient to cover what it would cost to pay for our sins and keep on paying to avoid additional overdraft charges on our account. Then one transaction took care of all our lack of and our inability to pay.  Christ stepped in and made the ultimate payment that forever changed the way we do business. He made a righteous payment; a deposit so large, that it impacted this life and all eternity.  Now, none of us can ever be short on payment.

Righteousness has been credited to our account. It's like a line of credit given to protect your bank account from being in the red. The difference though, you can exhaust a line of credit if you don't pay back what is borrowed, but with God, this is not a problem, because you cannot overdraw on righteousness.  Jesus covered the cost for all eternity and you don't have to pay it back.
