Giants always look bigger when you are giving ear or paying heed to the wrong voices. Be cognizant of the voices you subscribe to when you are staring at the giant(s) in front of you (See I Samuel 17:20-50).
Eliab, David's brother said to him, “Why have you come down here? And with whom did you leave those few sheep in the wilderness? I know how conceited you are and how wicked your heart is; you came down only to watch the battle.” How did David respond? He turned away from him to someone else.
When David announced to Saul that he would fight the giant, Saul's first response was; “You are not able to go out against this Philistine and fight him; you are only a young man, and he has been a warrior from his youth.” David said he would, Saul said he couldn't. Saul was making a judgment based on what he saw. Then he tried to convince David to be more like him and do the way he did it. David stance was; "No thank you, I'll rather be me."
When David approached Goliath, he disdained David and said, “Am I a dog, that you come at me with sticks?” And the Philistine cursed David by his gods. “Come here,” he said, “and I’ll give your flesh to the birds and the wild animals!” David's response was, “You come against me with sword and spear and javelin, but I come against you in the name of the Lord Almighty, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied. This day the Lord will deliver you into my hands, and I’ll strike you down and cut off your head. This very day I will give the carcasses of the Philistine army to the birds and the wild animals, and the whole world will know that there is a God in Israel. All those gathered here will know that it is not by sword or spear that the Lord saves; for the battle is the Lord’s, and he will give all of you into our hands.”
David's confidence came from giving attention to the right voice and turning away from, the negative voices that told him, he was in the wrong place, taking the wrong approach, and choosing the wrong fight. But each one proved wrong, and the giant fell just like any ordinary opponent. David refused to contemplate on any of the negative voices and he saw the giant in the same light as the lion and the bear he had already conquered.
Giants come looking like problems, drama, trauma, heartbreak, resistance and the likes. But whenever you face a giant in your life pay attention because there will be many voices providing advice, instructions, and dissenting voices who are in opposition. The size of the giant will or will not be a major factor depending on who you heed. Your victory will depend on who has your ear. Trust the voice of God, the One who knows you best and loves you most and watch your giants crumble and fall.
Blessings!
