When God chose Gideon, He called him a mighty warrior, and told him to go and save Israel. But Gideon replied, “Pardon me, my lord, but how can I save Israel? My clan is the weakest in Manasseh and I am the least in my family” (Judges 6:15 NIV). In other words, my family not high class or middle class, and Lord, my family has never done anything great. I'm the last in my father’s house, no one cares who I am. I am a far cry from a warrior. I am not qualified. The same awareness God gave to Gideon, He is giving to you, today. Change starts with you, and rebellion can end with you too. And the first thing He asked Gideon to do was to first get the bull from his father's herd, then go and break Baal’s altar down.
We no longer built altars of wood and of stone, but we build walls that separate us – racial prejudice, injustice, inequality, inequity, and the likes – all separate us from one another whether great or small, and the more we achieve the more we crave, and the walls keep rising. But the wall that divided us and stood in the way, Jesus gave himself a sacrifice and tore it down – the wall that separated us – the haves from the have nots, the pious from the profane, the 'righteous' from the unrighteousness, and placed us on an even playing field. “He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him. Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God…” (John 1:11-12 NIV). And though many seek to rebuild, what He already tore down, He stills call on us who believe to let love prevail to tear down any attempt to at rebuilding.
So, if you are reading this blog, make sure that you are not one who seeks to rebuild the wall that separates, and that you act in love to break down any that you see being built up. Be a warrior who does not wage war by the standards set by the world. "For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ" (2 Corinthians 10:3-5 NIV). Let’s do our part!
